Well, I see Bernie is here. I just walked in the door, and am trying to type while managing a cheeseburger.

Pressure’s on…

How about we start with the direction of our church. How is everyone feeling about where we’re going?

Bernie

Jim, I’m here, Bernie. Lets not talk about Hillary on SNL

After Sunday night, and seeing the body come out for the Truth Project, I think the Lord is really doing a work.

Topic: Direction of New Life

1 07 2008
Steve

Here is something for you. This week I was lead to look at the Law, which took me to Exodus chapter 20. But I was really struck by the prior chapter, where the Lord speaks to Moses in 19:5, and says “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possesion. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

I was struck by this, in that it was both a promise and a warning, because of the key word “if”.

I wanted to look deeper, and see how this applied to us as Christians. The Lord lead me to Luke 22:20 where Jesus says “This cup is the new covenant in my blood…” Romans 11 talks about how we are ingrafted branches, but also warns that if God removed the natural branch, that we who are grafted on should take care. John 15 talks a lot about how Jesus is the vine, and we are the branch, and we must remain in him in order to bear fruit. But the most striking to me 1st Peter 2:9-10 which uses the same description God gave to moses, calling us who were once not a people, a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.

So, God was clearly speaking to us all. We must obey and keep his covenant (remain in Christ).

Do I have this right?

Steve

Sorry I am a bit off topic. It takes way too long to look up scripture and write while eating a hamburger.

Jim

What direction do you think the church is going??

1 07 2008
Bernie

I’m excited to see what the Lord has done in the past year. The changes He has done in the Ministry. To me time seems to be getting shorter & shorter, and it isn’t because I getting older, >> Jim!
Our Government is out of touch and out of control. The American People are blinded to what is going on and what is before them. The church is asleep ( not NLCF-WC), working to build their own Kingdom here on earth; teaching those things that tickle the ears of the hearer.
We need to really pray for the Lord to Open Doors and provide Vision and Means for this ministry to proclaim the Gospel. We need to seek the Lord and ask for Him to put urgency in our hearts and the hearts of those in the Leadership & Body for the lost AND then get going. Sorry it took me time to write this.

1 07 2008
Jim

No the topic is fine Steve and yes you got it right. The necessity to stay in Christ is the important thing.

1 07 2008
tapestryandtruth

Steve,
1 Peter:

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 07 2008
Steve

Right, so the same promise applies to us as it did to the Israelites at the time the law was given. (as well as the warning)

Steve

1 07 2008
Jim

I agree Bernie and prayerfully we are heading in the right direction with the need to share Jesus with a world which says they don’t need Him yet they are looking for answers to the problems in their lives.

I also like the idea of us looking out side the box to reach the world.

1 07 2008
Bernie

Just think Steve, God has chosen us from the foundation of the Earth. He has made us his Special People; He looks at us without Spot or Wrinkle, because of Jesus Christ. Not only did God give us the grace to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord & Savior, He even made Him our advocate. What also blows me away is there is nothing hidden from Him, he knows everything, and He Loves us any way. I just wonder what He has for us.

Rande’s question is, …”the direction of the church,” and “where it’s going…?” I’ve not yet read everypost, but I’m interested to know the “direction” and “where the church is going”? I post this as if I were passing by and am inquiring why I should go to this church and not the church across the street.

1 07 2008
Jim

Yes same promise and same warning.

1 07 2008
Steve

I see our church standing in the word and in the truth. This has been our direction, and it is why we come. Our church is a place where people who want truth can find it.

Steve

Amazing stuff (I know – multiple topics):
1) Even when His people broke the Law, He never stopped loving them or calling them His own…

2) John, how would you answer your questions? Why New Life? Where do you see us going?

1 07 2008
john

I was hoping you or someone would be able to tell me – I know how Rande thinks (sometimes).

1 07 2008
Bernie

I also know that God does not delight at the death of a Sinner (Lost). How much longer we have I don’t know, but I do know that people in West Covina and the community around died every day. I’m sure people in West Covina are searching for a purpose, for Truth, for a way out of everything that holds them, away out from their hopelessness.
How do we wake up Gods People (even some at NLCF-WC) to really see the Lost?
I know we have the truth, hope and Life, How do we get it to them (the lost)?? It seems like the work is so great, where do we start.

1 07 2008
tapestryandtruth

I guess direction / vision / mission are a bit ambiguous. Let’s get practical.

I think our ministry is in the middle of something that God has started – there’s maturity happening. Renewed hunger for truth. There’s more work to be done… but it’s His work – and I think we’re surfing on His wave, so to speak.

I see i missed a lot

1 07 2008
Steve

Yes Rande- What is really interesting about your point is, that yesterday and today I was reading Ezekiel. Kinda makes your hair stand on end. But at the end of chapter 16, in verse 63, after having described the full measure of his anger and wrath against unfaithfull Israel, God says “Then, when I make atonement for you and for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed….”

God, even in his outrage, speaks of his making atonment. Not of Israel making atonment, but God himself.

Steve

1) Warnings from the Lord does not mean He’s mad at us it simply means He is letting us know there is a right way and there are blessings for going the right way and if you reject the warnings don’t exspect the blessings.

Bernie – I hope some of the things we talked about on Saturday are good places to start – internet radio, loving on the community, creative approaches to evangelism…

What do you think?

1 07 2008
Bernie

I strongly believe that New Life is there. I believe that guys at Shepherd School have a heart for the lost, and to get the Gospel out. NLCF-WC is teaching Gods Word, they are building up Gods People in His ways, they are encouraging the people to be an example, and to get involved. Question >> Where do we start from Here, this moment to go for those outside the church, for those who will never on their own go or enter to a church?

1 07 2008
Jim

I feel we are going in the right direction and I am looking forward to were He takes us. We must be welling to follow Him all the way no matter the cost.

1 07 2008
Jason

I love the idea of internet radio

1 07 2008
Steve

I really like the idea of the radio. If we could figure out how to do that, we would have a powerful forum for Christ.

Steve

Jim

Hey guys I was really blessed tonight and I’m looking forward to next week !!!

1 07 2008
Jason

I am very excited to see where the Lord is going to lead us this year. There is still a lot of work to be done but I see the renewing and reviving of our spirits to serve the Lord.

Renewing and reviving are ongoing works in the life of a believer, for example when our spiritual senses grow dull, and our hearts become faint and weary, we must cry out as David cried out “Renew a steadfast spirit within me”

Or when our sprit falls into a strangely odd sleepiness that our soul needs reviving. Our God He has declared “To revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Good night brothers.

In the New Testament there are examples of places people would go to discuss the issues of the time (and they haven’t changed that much – philosophy, politics, religion…). The marketplace, Mars Hill, etc.

Today, people go to coffeehouses, bookstores, and you can find these discussions on college campus’ too. But, what’s interesting is that there is also a large amount of people who will go online to discuss these things. Google reports that one of the most popular discussion groups is the one called “Atheist vs. Christian.”

We don’t always need to leave our homes to evangelize!

Good night!

1 07 2008
Jason

Not sure if anyone is still there, for some reason my posts where not showing at first. Over this last Sunday morning during the Pastors sermon in the book of Mark, Mark 3:14-15 really stood out to me.

Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: Mark 3:14-15

The Greek word for preached that is used is kā-rü’s-sō it means:

1) to be a herald, to officiate as a herald
a) to proclaim after the manner of a herald
b) always with the suggestion of formality, gravity and an authority which must be listened to and obeyed
2) to publish, proclaim openly: something which has been done
3) used of the public proclamation of the gospel and matters pertaining to it, made by John the Baptist, by Jesus, by the apostles and other Christian teachers

Any thoughts?

Good night!

1 07 2008
tapestryandtruth

Ever seen the movie Knights Tale (I think that’s the one)? The would-be jousting hero had a herald – an announcer, as it were. He would introduce the interested crowd to the virtual stranger about to take part in a potential death match at the center of the stadium. That’s what a herald does. A public proclamation – and every prince had a herald.

So, my thoughts – you asked(!): What was the message they were to herald? Jesus hadn’t yet died or rose. What were they preaching?

1 07 2008
Jason

Well lets see, the Lord tells the 12 in Matthew 10:7

And as you go, preach, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 10:7

And in Luke 9:2

He sent them to preach the kindom of God and to heal the sick. Luke 9:2

And in Mark 6:7-13

And He called the twelve to Himself, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits. He commanded them to take nothing for the journey except a staff; no bag, no bread, no copper in their money belts; but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics. Also He said to them, “In whatever place you enter a house, stay there till you depart from that place. And whoever will not receive you nor hear you, when you depart from there, shake off the dust under your feet as a testimony against them. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!” So they went out and preached that people should repent. And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them. Mark 6:7-13

Wish I did not have to wake up at 4:45am or else I would blog longer.

Good night and God bless you.

I’m quoting Pastor Jim:

Jim Says:
June 12, 2008 at 10:41 pm e

When Jesus preached the Gospel He preached about many things. The Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven where the Lord reigns and is described briefly in the book of Revelation. He preached about sin which keeps us out of God’s Kingdom. He preached about the coming Messiah who would make the way for people to be accepted in the Kingdom of God, our salvation. He preached about God’s love and His desire to spend all eternity with us in the Kingdom of Heaven.

So preaching the Gospel is not simply stating one thing, it is stating the wonderful works of God and His love and His plans for us and his salvation through Jesus for us.

I have been taken by this as we study through Mark as well. In fact – a very literal interpretation of Mark 1:15 is this:
“and saying ‘because [the season] is finished so then draw near the Kingdom [of] God, think differently and have faith in the good message.”

I love this.

So, let’s keep the conversation going a bit… what is the kingdom of God?

Jason

Week end was good, I was down south in Mexico with the family. Had great fellowship with the family and also with the curch down there. How was your week end?

8 07 2008
Steve

Just a weekend with the family. You know, fireworks, barbecue, grandkids, good stuff like that. Tell us about the trip to Mexico. What do you do there?

8 07 2008
Jason

It is so easy to get lost on this blog site, I am still learning how this site works. Steve so how is the task of the website coming along?

8 07 2008
Jason

We played, prayed, ate a lot of food, did fireworks for the kids, slept in, and I tell you had a great time with the family. I missed not being at church on Sunday, but had great fellowship with a faithful group of people on Sunday.

8 07 2008
Jim

Hey Jason and Steve sorry I’m late do you guys have a topic your talking about or just talking

8 07 2008
Steve

We ordered a computer, and got a dual tape deck, so we can load Rande’s software and play with converting the tapes. Hopefully we will know how this will work out by Sunday. Also, Rande gave us a sample of the information we need the ministry leaders to supply. I wrote to Bernie to ask for a list of ministry leaders, and once we have that we will go to each one and get the required information into a template that matches Rande’s.

8 07 2008
Steve

We are just talking. Looking for a subject.

8 07 2008
Jason

The pastor out there would like to do a missions/outreach with us in the future.

8 07 2008
Jim

Hey Steve I have some info to give you about the web site but I well have to draw it and fax it to you. Can you give me your fax number

8 07 2008
Jason

Hey pastor Jim.

8 07 2008
Jim

Are you guys enjoying the projects you were given?

8 07 2008
Jason

No topic yet, do you have a topic for us?

8 07 2008
Steve

You can fax me at 626 969 4904.

So, anybody have an interesting experience with the Lord this week?

8 07 2008
Jason

I am enjoying them very much, I have brought to prayer some ideas that I am very excided about for the creative evangelism. Pastor did you get my email with an update? Steve you got my email right?

8 07 2008
Steve

Yep. Got your e mail and really appreciate you keeping me in the loop.

8 07 2008
Jason

I tell I am excited with all that is going on. It is great to see so much movement within the body of Christ.

8 07 2008
Jim

yes Jason I received your email and I’m praying for the Lord to raise up one or two more for your group.

8 07 2008
Jason

I love how Psalm 90:12 tells us “So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdome”.

8 07 2008
Jim

I met with Bernie today and he was telling me that the internet radio idea is huge and there are so many things we can do with it.

8 07 2008
Jason

Spelling check I mean “wisdom”.

8 07 2008
Steve

So the Pslamist is asking God to teach him to appreciate how short our human lives are, so we can be wise in regard to what is important?

I like the internet radio idea.

8 07 2008
Jim

yes that is what the Psalm is saying. It is amazing to me how often I need to pray this Psalm because it is so easy to run with my own ideas.

8 07 2008
Jason

He goes on to say in Verse 16-17 “Let your work appear to Your servants, and Your glory to thier children. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands”.

I love the thought of the internet radio as well.

8 07 2008
Steve

Amen.

8 07 2008
Jim

I believe we are on the right track with the things we are doing and checking into for the ministry. I believe we well see the Lords work and His glory in these things.

8 07 2008

sorry I missed you guys tonight… family stuff…

8 07 2008

Well, here it is Tuesday night again. Does anybody have a topic?
Is the Shepherd’s school this Saturday?

15 07 2008
Jason

Evening brother Steve, I believe it is this Saturday.

15 07 2008
Steve

Hey Jason. What has the Lord been doing in your life this week?

15 07 2008
Jason

Today brother I am tired, almost ready for bed.

Any Scripture to share?

15 07 2008
Steve

Hey Jason, where did you go? Am I here all alone?

15 07 2008
Rande

Hey!

15 07 2008
Jason

I am here Steve, how are you this week?

15 07 2008
Jason

Evening Rande.

15 07 2008
Steve

No brother, but I understand. Sometimes it is hard. When I am tired and worn out, I think about how good the Lord has been to me, and how much He has done, and then I feel encouraged and greatful.

I keep coming back to Psalm 119. I often feel like that guy.

15 07 2008
Steve

Hi Rande. Jason, I type too slow.
