Advent Conspiracy, anyone?

Tis the season to SPEND money, falalalala la la lala!

If the US retail markets could join together and push an agenda, I’m sure it would have to do with starting the Holiday Spirit a little earlier… Oh! They have, haven’t they? While it used to be commonplace for Seasons Greetings to start making an appearance on Black Friday, it seems many big box retailers have started pushing this a little closer to Back-to-school a little more each year. I get it – when the economy is in the tank, a little bit of the “see what sticks” approach can’t hurt anybody, right?

This season American consumers will spend some $450,000,000,000. That’s billions for you public school products.

My friends, I don’t mean to get preachy, but I would like to serve as a reminder – by way of Charlie Brown:

And if that wasn’t preachy enough, maybe I can also get you to think about being a part of something bigger than you or I this season? Advent – which comes from the Latin word “come” – is celebrated by many churches and Christians this time of year. It is a symbolic preparation for the first coming of the Savior – and in some sense, in anticipation for His next coming. It’s taking a look at ourselves and asking what would Jesus do this season?

I think the people at Advent Conspiracy have it right: Worship FULLY; Spend LESS; Give MORE; and Love ALL. Here’s what they’d like to do through folks like you and me:

In the immortal words of Charlie Brown, “Doesn’t ANYBODY know what Christmas is all about?!” What would you do to tell the real story?
